Enrollment Options
This course has three options: traditional classroom, blended learning or completely online. The classroom version is 10 days in a traditional setting. The blended learning version (our most common offering) combines some self-paced online instruction with 5-6 days in the classroom. The online version is completed at one's own pace, and then testing is coordinated individually at a network of testing facilities.
How to Host a ClassClassroom or Blended Learning OptionAre you interested in hosting a class at your local facility? The instructor will travel to you and bring all the books and supplies necessary. This option is most often conducted for Coast Guard and other military members, usually at a base, sector, or individual unit. The course is also held at yacht clubs, marinas, and other locations on a case-by-case basis.
The course is usually conducted in conjunction with courses for the sailing endorsement, assistance towing endorsement, CPR/First Aid, and the 200-ton upgrade module for those interested (at no extra cost). |

Online Learning OptionThis course is offered quarterly as a cohort-style course, which means you enroll as part of a small group of individuals. Upon enrollment, you will receive a box of books, charts, and supplies on loan. You can begin your learning modules immediately and work at your own pace.
If you run into trouble or have questions, you can contact the instructor to set up a phone call or video chat to work with you individually, or you can attend several live-streamed Q&A sessions. When you have completed your online modules, you will complete your proctored exams at a location near you. Then, you mail back your loaner books and receive your course completion certificate in the mail! Contact the instructor to check if this is right for you. |
